The Dambusters and an Escape to Colditz

This intriguing tour through Germany is based on some of the famous and infamous locations and events of World War II. We enter first into one of the most scenic landscapes of central Germany and a popular local holiday destination, where we view the Mohne and Eder Dams which were miraculously destroyed by the legendary pilots of the RAF ‘Dambusters’ squadron, using the bouncing bomb created by genius Barnes Wallace inventor, which hugely impaired the Nazi industrial war machine. Previously behind the Iron Curtain, Saxony has retained much of its authenticity that would have otherwise been removed by western European culture in the latter part of the 20th century. Known as Germany’s Treasure House, this is a land of many heritage attractions, highlights of which we will encounter, but we concentrate on the Castle of Colditz, looking in depth at its notorious role as a Prisoner Of War camp where officers devised many infamous escape attempts.
